I definitely did a happy dance when I found my first ever sea glass marble in Johnshaven harbour recently. It's such a pretty swirl of ice cream colours. This amazing sea glass gem was destined to be the star in this dreamy ring. Marbles like this one were mostly likely from children's games, but marbles were also used in spray paint cans, furniture feet and dolls eyes.
It's believed that marbles date back to 3000 B.C. The cat’s eye marble (like this one) was invented in Japan around 1945.
And did you know that the British and World Marbles Championship takes place annually on Good Friday in Tinsley Green in Sussex? The knock out tournament was first held in 1588. So much marbellous history!
